SUMMARY:Trustworthy Tuesday #10 - Hardware Security Guarantees with UPEC
DESCRIPTION:In our next session, Lucas Deutschmann will give his presentati
on “Beyond Bug Hunting: Exhaustive Hardware Security Guarantees with UPEC”.
UPEC is a formal verification methodology designed to systematically detec
t microarchitectural vulnerabilities and provide exhaustive security guaran
tees for the entire system stack. \n\nMicroarchitectural side-channel attac
ks have repeatedly compromised system security, undermining the role of har
dware as an immutable root of trust. \n\nAlthough software-based countermea
sures are widely used, their effectiveness depends heavily on assumptions a
bout the behavior of the underlying hardware.  To bridge this gap, this pre
sentation introduces Unique Program Execution Checking (UPEC).\n\nThe event
is happening on July 21st, starting at 2pm (UTC +2). The event will be hel
d on Zoom. The recording will be uploaded to the EvIT website after the eve
 nt.\n\nZoom link: https://meetgi.zoom.us/j/63596674634?pwd=Ca9T0fqnGb8hL0eR
